Jack Young wins the first round at Oulton Park
Jack Young has won the first round of the UK Clio Cup Championship at Oulton Park, ahead of James Bond.
Bond led the opening few laps but made a mistake at Druids which allowed Young to make a pass.
Max Coates was then able to overtake Young at Old Hall and the trio went on to fight nose to tail until Bond got back passed Coates at the hairpin.
Young went on to take the fastest lap in his MRM clio and won the race, 3.8s from Bond in second place.
“It’s an important win as Max had got the gap down to 12 points but this opens it back up again and I’m on pole tomorrow so will be going for the double.” commented Young.
Bond said: “It’s frustrating to let the win get away like that but I’m still happy with second.”
“If I hadn’t ended up behind Max for a few laps then I think I could have gone with Jack.”
“Now I’ve had a taste of racing them at the front let’s see what happens tomorrow…”
Ben Colburn ended up fourth ahead of the Team HARD Clio of Jade Edwards.
Ethan Hammerton was sixth with Brett Lidsey and Luke Warr behind in seventh and eighth.
Finlay Robinson was the only driver retire with his Clio suffering a mechanical problem on lap two.
