Toro Rosso Team Principal, Franz Tost has said it was “fantastic” to see the battle between his two drivers, Daniil Kvyat and Alex Albon.
In arguably the move of the day, Kvyat managed to overtake his teammate on lap 18 after a three corner battle.
Kvyat had almost made a move stick going into Turn 1 but Albon defended and came back at Kvyat and the pair went side by side going in to Turn 2 and stayed that way until they got to Turn 4.
When they arrived at Turn 4 Kvyat had the inside and he held the racing line causing Albon to go wide and off the track.
Despite how close the pair were, neither driver touched and Tost was impressed with how the pair raced.
“It was fantastic to see how Daniil and Alex raced each other” commented Tost.
“We didn’t want to give any order from the pit wall and we decided to let them race – this is what people want to see from the grandstands and on TV.”
“They fought each other fairly and it was good racing.”
Eventhough he came off worse in the battle, Albon also enjoyed the fight against his teammate.
“I had two nice fights with Dany, the first one was much closer than the second one!” said Albon.
“It was good fun and it was fair racing”.
Albon eventually recovered from being passed by Kvyat and ended up finishing ahead of his teammate, crossing the line in 10th and the British born Thai driver felt it was the maximum they could have achieved.
“My first stint was average, and I didn’t feel very comfortable with the Medium tyres, it felt like I had almost no grip at all, but once I went onto the Hard tyres the car came alive again.”
“I think P10 was the best we could achieve today, so we have to be pleased.”
