MRM’s Jack Young and Team HARD’s Jamie Bond have both taken pole position for the two UK Clio Cup races at Snetterton.
It looked like Bond had done enough to secure pole position for both races but Young’s final lap right at the end of the session saw him steal the top spot by just 0.054s.
Max Coates set the third fastest time to line up behind the leading pair with MRM driver Brett Lidsey some way back in fourth.
Despite Bond being pipped for pole in the first race, his second fastest time was still good enough to take pole position for race two.
Team HARD locked out the front row for the second race with Coates’ second fastest lap only 0.031s slower than his teammate.
Young was only 0.03s behind Coates in third with Lidsey again lining up in fourth.
Speaking about his pole position, Young said: “That was cutting it fine – I thought I’d done enough on my previous lap but got the message it’d had been disallowed for track limits so knew it was now or never with the clock ticking down.”
“Oddly enough I didn’t set a personal best sector but they were still all good which was what counted.”
Despite missing out on a double pole, Bond was still happy with the result after having a troubled practice session.
“I really had to press the re-set button last night after free practice as I wasn’t happy with how our day had gone – I’m a lot happier now!” said Bond.
“After taking a pole and leading last time out at Oulton Park, I know what to expect more this time from Jack and Max…”
