Williams confirms Nissany as official test driver

Williams has confirmed that Formula 2 racer, Roy Nissany has joined the team as an official test driver for the 2020 Formula 1 season.

Nissany, who last raced competitively in 2018, has confirmed that he will be returning to the F2 championship for 2020, and will dovetail those duties with a test driver role at Williams.

His role with Williams will include the participation of three FP1 sessions throughout the season, as well as a day of testing in one of the 2020 rookie tests.

The 25-year-old will also spend three weekends with the team, fully immersing himself with the Grove based squad, and will help the team with its development by undertaking numerous simulator sessions at the factory.

As part of the deal, the Israel Start-up logo will appear on Williams’ 2020 challenger for the duration of a weekend when Nissany participates in practice.

Speaking about the announcement, Nissany said: “I am thrilled to become Official Test Driver for ROKiT Williams Racing.

“This is also a landmark for motorsport in Israel.

“When I tested for the team in Abu Dhabi in December, I instantly felt comfortable in the car and part of the team.

“The experience that I will gain this year, immersing myself with Williams will prove invaluable and I’m looking forward to getting started, both on and off the track.”

Nissany ended the 2018 F2 championship 22nd in the driver’s standings, after scoring only one top ten finish with Campos Racing, and the Israeli driver was forced to sit out of racing last year due to a wrist injury.

But, despite missing a season, Williams were impressed by how quick he got up to the pace at the end of season test at Abu Dhabi, and his performance was good enough to him the test driver role for this year.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Roy Nissany to ROKiT Williams Racing in the role of our Official Test Driver.” added Williams.

“Roy demonstrated his capabilities driving in the post-season Abu Dhabi test last year and we were extremely impressed with what he could do in a short space of time.

“He is a hard-working individual who we are excited to be working with this year.”
