BMW i Andretti Motorsport are expecting a strong result in this weekend’s E-Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico.
The team are currently leading the Teams’ championship, after winning two of the first three races of the season, and they believe that last year’s performance in Mexico proves that they should be aiming for another victory this weekend.
Last year, both Antonio Felix da Costa and Alexander Sims qualified in the top three for the Mexico City E-Prix, and Felix da Costa finished second in the race, less than half a second behind winner, Lucas Di Grassi.
But, although the team has had an impressive start to the year, BMW i Andretti Motorsport Team Principal, Roger Griffiths has said that his team must remain focus and avoid mistakes if they are going to challenge for victory.
“We have not been taking it easy after our successes in Diriyah and Santiago.” commented Griffiths.
“We have been focused on all aspects of a Formula E weekend to ensure that we can continue to improve while our fans in Mexico City are watching.
“We realise that consistency and avoiding errors are the key to success in Formula E.”
Griffiths also believes that the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez layout will suit the team’s car and that the new layout shouldn’t pose a problem for Sims or team-mate Maximillian Gunther.
“The circuit in Mexico City should be well suited to the strengths of the BMW i drivetrain. Our podium finish last year showed that.” added Griffiths.
“The changes to the track layout should also have no effect.
“The downside of our successful start to the season is that our two drivers will have to compete in qualifying Group 1.
“However, we think that this will be less of a problem in Mexico City than on many other circuits.
“Our aim is to record some good results and get into the points with both cars.”
