The Alfa Romeo of Robert Kubica topped the opening day of the second Formula 1 pre-season test, with a best time of 1m16.942s.
Kubica took on driving duties for Alfa Romeo for the morning session and completed 53 laps, before handing the car over to Kimi Raikkonen for the afternoon.
But despite not taking part in the afternoon session, nobody went faster than the former Williams driver’s time, meaning he finished the day with the fastest time.
Max Verstappen had a strong afternoon, completing 83 laps to end the day second fastest, fourth tenths down on Kubica’s best effort, while the Sergio Perez was once again impressive, ending up third fastest in his Racing Point with a best lap of 1m17.428s.
Daniil Kvyat had a much more productive day than his team-mate Pierre Gasly, completing 61 laps compared to his team-mate’s 25 and the Russian ended the day fourth fastest, 0.084s ahead of Gasly.
Alex Albon’s time of 1m17.550s from the morning was good enough sixth, while Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll ended up seventh and eighth fastest.
Valtteri Bottas swapped places with Hamilton for the afternoon and ended up ninth fastest, having completed an impressive 90 laps, while the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top ten after setting a time of 1m18.113s in the morning.
Daniel Ricciardo’s fastest time from the morning was good enough for 11th, while the McLaren of Carlos Sainz ended the day 12th on the timesheet, ahead of Charles Leclerc who had a best time of 1m18.244s.
Nicholas Latifi had set a best time of of 1m18.300s before suffering with a suspected power unit issue in the morning, and finished the day 14th, but team-mate George Russell was able to take over for the afternoon and ended up 15th after completing 58 laps.
Romain Grosjean was the only driver to spend a whole day in the car, completing 107 laps, the most of any individual driver, and he finished with the 16th fastest time, ahead of the McLaren of Lando Norris.
Raikkonen ended up 2.5 seconds down on his Alfa Romeo colleague to end the day 18th, while the Renault of Esteban Ocon propped up the timesheet with a best time of 1m21.542s.
