Sebastian Vettel topped the timesheet on the penultimate day of Formula 1 pre-season testing while Mercedes suffer an engine issue.
Vettel finally unleashed some of the potential of his SF1000 after a having a quiet test so far, and set a best time of 1m16.841s while also completing an impressive 144 laps during the day.
Meanwhile, Mercedes had a difficult day, with Valtteri Bottas limited to 47 laps in the morning, before Lewis Hamilton stopped out on track with an engine failure after just 14 laps in the afternoon.
Bottas’ best time in the morning was good enough for seventh, while Hamilton failed to put in any representative laptimes, and he ended up bottom of the classification order, some 5.5s off Vettel’s pacesetting time.
Pierre Gasly was second fastest on Thursday, just two tenths shy of Vettel’s best effort, whilst also clocking up 138 laps in his AlphaTauri AT01.
The Racing Point of Lance Stroll was once again at the front end of the timesheet, with a best effort of 1m17,118s, two tenths faster than the Williams of Nicholas Latifi in fourth.
Lando Norris had an encouraging day in his McLaren, completing 112 laps, and he ended Thursday seven tenths off Vettel’s time which as good enough for fifth.
Max Verstappen was sixth fastest, but the Red Bull driver suffered issues with his RB16 and was only able to complete 31 laps.
The Renault of Esteban Ocon set a best time of 1m18.013s to finish the day eighth, ahead of the Haas of Kevin Magnussen, who completed 110 laps during the course of the day.
Alexander Albon had a more productive day than his team-mate, completing 60 laps, as he rounded out the top ten.
Daniel Ricciardo’s best effort of 1m18.395s was good enough for the 11th fast time of the day in his Renault RS20, while the Alfa Romeo of Antonio Giovinazzi was 1.3s further back in 12th.
