Electric cars are being introduced to the rallycross world in the form of the new category Projekt E.
Projekt E will take place as a support category of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at selected events. The series will get underway in Belgium at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit on May 16-17.
Rounds two and three will be at Norway on 13-14 June and Sweden on 4-5 July. Rallycross will be visiting the Nurburgring on 1-2 August whilst the last round will be held in Latvia on 19-20 September.
The cars used will be a collaboration between IMG and STARD (Stohl Advanced Research and Development). It will use the STARD “REVelution” EV powertrain systems which will produce up to 450kW (613bhp) combined power, 1100Nm of instantaneous torque and produce a top speed of 240km/h and will be fitted to current World RX chassis technology such as the 2019 STARD World RX Ford Fiesta.
The first driver who will be competing in the series was announced earlier this year and is former British Rally driver, Natalie Barratt. Whilst Holten Motorsport AS were the first team to confirm their commitment to Projekt E. The Polish rally championship team, Rallytechnology, have announced they will be entering two cars into the all-electric series. Neither team have named their drivers.
