United Autosports are the latest to confirm their driver lineup for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual on June 13-14.
Currently competing in the FIA WEC and in its supporter series’ (European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup), United Autosports have a grand amount of experience in endurance racing and have attempted the Le Mans 24H since 2017.
It was understood that they submitted two entries to the ACO selection committee, but one slot was allocated.
The team are the second of many who will reveal their driver lineups for the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual.
This news follows from the first announcement – GTE team’s ‘Strong Together’ will consist of current FE and former F1 star Felipe Massa, AF Corse LM-GTE Am drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Francesco Castellacci, and esports star/Virtual Endurance Championship competitor Tony Mella.
The #22 United Autosports LMP2 car will be driven by their team drivers: Filipe Albuquerque, Alex Brundle, Job van Uitert (LMP2 drivers), and Tom Gamble (a United Autosports LMP3 driver).
All of which have made numerous sim-racing appearances and will look to stand out in a highly competitive LMP category of 30 cars.
Zak Brown, Team Owner and Chairman of United Autosports said: “We wanted to show our support to the ACO and WEC by entering the virtual Le Mans 24 Hours race.
“We love Le Mans and while we can’t go racing for real in June, this is a very good substitute. I’m excited to see how we get on.”
Richard Dean, Co-Owner and Managing Director of United Autosports also commented: “The virtual Le Mans 24 Hours race is a great idea.
“It gives teams the opportunity to keep sponsors engaged and our drivers something to look forward to and focus on during this worldwide break in motorsport.
“Congratulations to the ACO for making even the selection process for the virtual race feel like the real thing.
“It is disappointing not to have both our cars on the grid, especially as the second car was made up of a team of drivers and sponsors that support the two ACO series we are entering in 2020 (ELMS and Michelin Le Mans Cup).
“However, I’m sure Filipe, Alex, Job and Tom will do a good job for us. I’m looking forward to seeing how our team gets on.”
