FA Racing and Torque Esports have collaborated to race in the LMP2 category for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual on June 13-14.
FA Racing, Fernando Alonso’s personal team, compete in the World Series single-seater championship and have also ran an esports team featuring W Series’ inaugural champion Jamie Chadwick.
Alonso made his WEC and Le Mans debut at the 2018 edition of the Le Mans 24H, which he won. He would then be confirmed as part of the #8 Toyota GAZOO Racing crew and replace 2014 WEC champion Anthony Davidson.
He went onto win Le Mans for a second time in the Super Season and claim the World Championship Title.
Alonso recently hinted a future return to the FIA World Endurance Championship and its Hypercar future.
Fellow F1 veteran Rubens Barrichello has competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2017 in the LMP2 category for Racing Team Nederlands; they achieved a P11 class finish.
The team will partner with Allinsports, a simulator company that has provided Alonso a simulator rig to compete in The Race’s Legends Trophy esports series.
They will run Fernando Alonso’s iconic #14 on their Oreca 07 LMP2, with the driver lineup looking like this:
The 24 Hours of Le Mans virtual will present a challenge to compete in such a large category of 30 cars, however, the two veteran F1 stars will have their chance to apply their driving talent and learn from the sim/esports racers.
