The future plans for Formula E have been taking shape recently, with the end of the 2019/20 season announced recently.

Now, Formula E have announced the provisional calendar for the 2021 season.

Due to the late finish of the 2019/20 season, the usual November/December start of the season has been postponed for Formula E and the racing will not start officially until 16th January in Santiago, Chile followed by Mexico a month later.

The double header in Diriyah will still go ahead but this time at the end of February.

The calendar runs similarly to the 2020 plan before Coronavirus with Monaco added up until the originally planned London finale.

In comparison to the original 2019/20 calendar, there is no Marrakesh E-Prix or Jakarta E-Prix.

The Jakarta E-Prix ran into some issues regarding the circuit in the local area. It was due to run around a national monument but this did not achieve local government approval.

Whether one of these could take up the undeclared 10th round is unknown.

It’s already been a big year for TBC who have successfully managed to get a position on pretty much every motorsport calendar allowing for a lot of surprises to be added to lots of motorsport calendars.

The 2021 season will be the first Formula E season to be competed as an FIA world championship and thus carries a new level of weight.

Officially the season is the 2020/21 season despite all the events taking place in 2021. Testing will most likely take place before Christmas in December granting the 2020 to the calendar.

Formula E said that the FIA World Motor Sport Council also approved modifications to the championship’s sporting regulations in line with Formula E’s new world championship status. Measures to reinforce economic, social and environmental sustainability efforts were also agreed.

These are to be announced in due course.
