Andretti and United Autosports partner for Extreme E expedition

United Autosports has teamed up with Andretti Autosport for a joint-participation for the upcoming debut of the Extreme E series in 2021.

The Andretti Autosports outfit confirmed their participation in April earlier this year and have partnered the outgoing UK-based endurance racing team of United Autosports to form Andretti United Extreme E.

Extreme E finds itself as an electric off-road series that will highlight the attention of climate change and its impact on Earth, with the involvement of several scientists in the operation of the championship.

United Autosports has made their name throughout prototype endurance racing, having worked with many famous names like Fernando Alonso, Juan Pablo Montoya, Lando Norris and Paul Di Resta.

As one of the largest UK-based motorsport organisations, they have current LMP2 and LMP3 participations amongst series’ like the FIA World Endurance Championship (where they currently lead the LMP2 standings after two consecutive wins), the European Le Mans Series, and the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

Andretti Autosport has made their name most notably with championship wins in Indycar and further success in other championships.

They have also established themselves in the FIA Formula E Championship electric single-seater series, having then partnered with BMW Motorsport from Season 5.

Fellow rivals of the American team, Chip Ganassi Racing, will also be participating in the opening season of Extreme E.

They confirmed both of their driver/co-driver lineups (one male and one female), being off-road champion Kyle LeDuc, and motocross and trophy truck star Sara Price.

Alejandro Agag, the Founder and CEO of Extreme E, said: “I’m really pleased to see Zak Brown and Richard Dean’s United Autosports team joining Michael Andretti in the Extreme E line-up in this powerhouse collaboration of motorsport talent and experience.

“Both teams have enjoyed huge success and bring incredible experiences to the table, but Extreme E offers a totally new challenge and will be their first joint electric racing collaboration.

“I’m sure I am not the only one who can’t wait to see what Andretti United Extreme E can achieve together, bring on 2021!”

Michael Andretti, the Chairman and CEO of Andretti Autosport said: “I’m really excited to once again partner with Zak, Richard and the United Autosports family.

“We’ve had the opportunity to work together on various programs over the last few years, and this new adventure in Extreme E may be one of the most exciting opportunities to again come together.

“Both organisations have strong experience in diverse areas of motorsport and I’m confident our combined effort will be a contender from the start.”

Zak Brown, Team Owner and Chairman of United Autosports said: “We have been looking at getting into electric racing for a while now and this new off-road championship looks fantastic, so I’m pleased we can work with Andretti to make it happen.

“They already have the contacts due to their Formula E entry, but we are working closely together to get up to speed as quickly as possible.

“The creation of the new company gives both teams an equal partnership moving forward in the Extreme E series.

“We are very much looking forward to starting this new journey for the team.”
