Valtteri Bottas topped the timing sheets in final practice for the British Grand Prix, one tenth ahead of Lewis Hamilton with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen not far behind in third.

It’s thought the high-speed track will suit the Black Arrows so the four-tenths gap to Verstappen is encouraging for a potential race battle at the top.

The other Red Bull of Alex Albon missed most of the session with an electrical issue, having also crashed yesterday, and only ran seven laps finishing twelfth.

There was a tight midfield fight headed by the Racing Point of Lance Stroll, whose stand-in teammate Nico Hulkenburg finished ninth. But he was only three tenths behind the Canadian just his third session in an F1 car in eight months after having to abort both his final qualifying simulation runs.

Charles Leclerc was an impressive sixth on what many have predicted to be a difficult track for the SF1000, but if he can replicate that this afternoon it will be a strong result for the Scuderia.

However, Sebastian Vettel struggled as an issue with his pedal box which has continued from yesterday with the four time champion eventually placing fourteenth in the session.

Leclerc was sandwiched by the two McLarens who returned to form after a tough weekend in Hungary, with Carlos Sainz fifth and Lando Norris seventh, while next season’s McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo was close behind in eighth.

It was also a good session for Alpha Tauri as Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10 directly ahead of Daniil Kvyat. However, Gasly’s compatriot Esteban Ocon had another tough session in the Renault, running 13th and off the back of the midfield fight.
