Mads Ostberg and Ken Block have joined the Projekt E grid in Sweden on August 22nd-23rd.
Projekt E, the all-electric rallycross racing series, will make its debut at the FIA World Rallycross Championship on August 22nd-23rd at Holjes, Sweden.
Citroen World Rally driver, Ostberg, will debut the Citroen C3 ERX built by STARD at the event later this month. Ostberg has had success with Citroen earlier this year winning the first two rounds of the World Rally Championship’s support category, WRC2.
Citroen revealed their ERX car earlier this week, with the car having been developed by STARD and supported by Citroen Racing. The C3 ERX is based on a C3 R5 rolling bodyshell, it uses 80% of Citroen Racing’s R5 components and is fitted with STARD’s REVelution electric powertrain system.
This is what Ostberg had to say about joining Projekt E, “It’s a really nice opportunity for me to take part in this project in Holjes. For sure everything will be brand new to me, the car, the track and I’ve never competed in rallycross before so I think it will be an amazing experience.”
Joining Ostberg on the grid at Holjes will be rallycross star Block. Block has finished on the podium at multiple World RX events and will be competing in the STARD built Ford Fiesta ERX. The Fiesta that Block will be racing has been given a special VIN (vehicle identification number), 043 in honour of his debut.
“I am stoked to take part in the worldwide first ever electric rallycross race in the Projekt E series in a STARD Ford Fiesta ERX! The car is rad and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel in Holjes,” said the American driver.
The only other confirmed driver to have joined Projekt E is British rally driver, Natalie Barratt.
