Ethan Hammerton will replace Bobby Thompson at Snetterton after being ruled out from a concussion after his high-speed roll at Croft.
Hammerton, 20, will race as a substitute for Thompson and GKR TradePriceCars.com with previous outings in the 2018 season where he raced in the final 6 races (Silverstone National and Brands Hatch).
He claimed a best-finish of 20th in the second Silverstone race, but claimed no points for Team HARD throughout the two weekends.
Hammerton said: “I didn’t expect to be racing this weekend because of the damage to my Mini (Challenge), so it was a nice surprise to get the call asking if I would be available to stand in for Bobby – particularly when both GKR and Trade Price Cars were involved when I made my touring car debut.”
Alike when he partnered Max Coates in 2019, a fellow Renault Clio Cup regular, he will partner against BTCC debutant and four-time Clio Cup champion Paul Rivett.
He described it as an ‘unexpected’ opportunity to make a return to the series but set ‘realistic’ standards about his efforts having not driven the Audi S3.
“My aim is to improve my times in each session as I get used to the car, and hopefully we can move forwards in the three races – especially the final two when I don’t have to run the extra weight that comes with being a new driver.”
Thompson added: “It’s really frustrating to not be able to race this weekend, particularly when Croft had been going so well.
“Scoring my best ever qualifying result and then taking two top eight finishes meant it was my best weekend in the BTCC, but that got overshadowed by the incident in race three.”
He went onto to express his eagerness to get back out there, crediting the team’s efforts to repair the car, but understands that he will have to sit aside at Snetterton with full intentions to race again at Brands Hatch.
