Brad Philpot will race for Power Maxed Car Care Racing at the British Touring Car Championship season finale on November 14th-15th.
The 34-year-old tested one of PMR’s Vauxhall Astras earlier in the year, but will now make his first BTCC participation at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
He said: “I’ve had my sights set on BTCC for a long time and I’m delighted to be making my debut with such a well-respected and successful team as PMR.”
Philpot earned his name through competing for Peugeot at the Nurburgring 24 Hours, having piloted their 208 to complete a podium lockout by the end.
Other achievements include winning the Silverstone 24 Hours, and claiming back-to-back championship titles in the Peugeot 308 Touring Car in 2018 and 2019.
“It’s great to be racing back in the UK at Brands Hatch for the season finale, and I’m confident we can deliver a strong performance to round off the year on a high.”
He succeeds Jade Edwards at Silverstone, Jac Constable at Croft (although not making an on-track debut on medical grounds), and Jess Hawkins at Snetterton to take over a PMR Astra and make a debut in the BTCC.
Team Principal of PMR Adam Weaver added: “Brad certainly has the pedigree necessary to challenge a number of BTCC drivers once he gets some experience under his belt”, also complimenting the several front-wheel drive titles Philpot has.
He continued: “We’ve been limited by the amount of testing he’s been able to cover in the Astra, but we know the car is fast and has given everyone who has driven it this year the opportunity to push forward in what’s known to be one of the toughest championships in the world.”
Philpot thanked Weaver and his personal sponsors for their “ongoing support” with two weeks to go until his BTCC debut at Rounds 25-27 of the 2020 season.
