The DragonSpeed LMP2 team will return to the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2021’s ninth season running, featuring Juan Pablo Montoya.
The 10 Star DragonSpeed will return to the WEC with a single Oreca 07 entry in the LMP2 category.
They will feature a lineup of sportscar regular Ben Hanley, Henrik Hedman, and ex-Formula 1 star and two-time Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya.
Montoya’s most recent campaign in sportscars has been his DPi pursuits in IMSA, for Acura Team Penske squad which have ended their partnership at the recent season conclusion at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
The Columbian had also raced at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans for DragonSpeed, a car which retired due to a misfire.
Montoya said: “I’m really excited to be joining DragonSpeed for the full WEC season.
“I had an amazing experience with them this year at Le Mans and I’m looking forward to racing again at so many classic venues with such a great group of people.”
The DragonSpeed team are the only entrants to have won races in their WEC, ELMS and IMSA campaigns.
Other than Fernando Alonso, of whom is set to return to Formula 1 in 2021, Montoya is the only other person at a chance towards winning motorsport’s ‘triple crown’.
However, he would have to be an overall winner at Le Mans and would need to find himself in a LMH or LMDh car for that to occur.
Team Principal Elton Julian added: “I’m super pleased to make this announcement well in advance of next season…Having Henrik and Ben together again while adding Juan’s ultra-gifted and experienced hands to the equation gives me tremendous confidence in our potential not only to fight for our class titles but also feature high up in the overall results as the new top class finds its feet.”
They will return at Sebring International Raceway at both the Season 9 Prologue and the 1000 Miles of Sebring (opening round).
