Thruxton replaces Brands Hatch as season opener following pandemic-led delay

The start of the 2021 British Touring Car Championship has been delayed by a month and will begin at Thruxton instead of Brands Hatch Indy.

The opening rounds set to be at Brands Hatch has been cancelled and the 2021 campaign will kick off at the Thruxton Circuit five weeks later.

The calendar itself (below) is still on-course to host 10 events with three rounds at each of them, totalling a 30-race season.

Instead, Brands Hatch Indy will be visited later this year in June, whilst a second Thruxton event will be in August.

In a statement, the BTCC said:

“In order to maximise the opportunity for spectators and guests to attend our events, it has been decided to shift the start of the campaign back by five weeks.

“The revised schedule will now start at Thruxton on 8/9 May, kicking off the full ten-event, 30-race season,” as intended unlike the 27 rounds of last year.
