AF Corse has confirmed their FIA WEC GTE-Pro driver lineups with a retained #51 crew and a new #71 lineup.
The Ferrari factory team will field two Ferrari 488 GTE Evos in Season 9 of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The team have retained their #51 lineup with duo Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado.
Calado, who won Le Mans in 2019 and the drivers’ championship in 2017, said:
“We saw last year that we are capable of winning both individual races and the championship, and so we’ll try to do everything in our power to claim the drivers’ and constructors’ titles for Ferrari again.”
Following a puncture at the 8 Hours of Bahrain season finale in November, he fell out of the title fight when Daniel Serra (acting in for Guidi due to GT World Challenge EU duties) got involved when lapping the #56 GTE-Am of Egidio Perfetti.
“I hope that the Balance of Performance can be revised from last year, to allow us to fight on equal terms, for the benefit of the show on the track,” added Pier Guidi.
“From our side, we have the advantage of stability and harmony within the team, and good competitiveness on all tracks.”
Following the departure of Aston Martin, only Ferrari and Porsche will fight for the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles in Season 9.
The #71 AF Corse crew has been revised with a duo of Ferrari factory regulars, Miguel Molina and Daniel Serra, who both made Le Mans 24 Hours appearances as recent as 2020.
Two-time Le Mans winner Daniel Serra said: “I am delighted to be heading into the 2021 season.
“I know the team and my teammate very well, and I think we can do well together.
“I’m preparing myself as best as I can to be ready when the season kicks off.”
Miguel Molina described his Season 8 teammate Davide Rigon as “an exemplary teammate.”
“I have had the chance to learn a lot from him, and he has pushed me to improve,” he reflected.
Rigon was involved in the WEC since 2016 and will see him join the #52 duo in the longer races like Le Mans.
He will pursue commitments in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and Asian Le Mans Series.
