Oliphant retained at Team BMW for third consecutive campaign

Tom Oliphant has been retained by West Surrey Racing and Team BMW ahead of the 2021 season of the British Touring Car Championship.

The 30-year-old endured his most successful BTCC campaign last year, securing a maiden victory at Brands Hatch.

He also assisted the team’s efforts in claiming a fifth consecutive Manufacturer’s title.

In a release, he said: “I feel I’ve made a positive step forwards with my performance over the past two years and I now feel so dialled-in to the 330i M Sport.

“Going down to two cars last year meant that I took on greater responsibility and that’s really helped my own development both on-track and off it – I certainly feel stronger and more confident as a result.”

With team-mate and four-time BTCC champion Colin Turkington alongside him once again, they will look not only to fight for the Drivers’ championship, but to secure a sixth consecutive Manufacturer’s title.

Team Principal Dick Bennetts complimented Oliphant’s progression last year that he put down to experience with the 330i M Sport package that they will continue to use for 2021.

Bennetts said: “His first win at Brands Hatch – under incredible pressure from behind – was extremely impressive, as was his charge through the field at Silverstone from last to the top five.

“It was obvious to see how much he grew in confidence across the year and his constant improvement was key in enabling us to reclaim the Teams’ Championship for Team BMW.

“I think we’ll see even more from Tom in 2021, which would be great for both him and us.”

A third driver is also expected to soon join West Surrey Racing for the 2021 season.

The 2021 season will commence on 8/9th May at Thruxton later this spring.
