Constable joins PMR in driver development role

Power Maxed Car Care Racing have announced Jac Constable will join its BTCC Driver Development programme for the 2021 campaign.

Constable joins the team with a good rapport, as he was due to race at Croft last year in the BTCC, but was forced to withdraw after qualifying due to medical reasons.

The 23-year-old will take to the track driving one of PMR’s Cupra Leon TCRs in 2021, competing in the TCR-UK Championship.

PMR are currently still in talks with a number of drivers as to decide who will join two-time champion Jason Plato in the team for 2021.

Team Manager Martin Broadhurst says Constable will be able to gain the experience he needs to gain a possible future spot on the BTCC grid with the team.

“We’re really looking forward to working with Jac again, after his chance in the car was unfortunately cut short last year through no fault of his own,” he said.

“He really impressed us with not only his skill on track, but his attitude and professionalism away from it, and we’ve been discussing how we can continue working together since Croft.

“The programme we’ve put together is a great way of giving him the experience necessary to join the fiercely competitive BTCC grid, transferring his skills in rear-wheel-drive cars to front-wheel-drive touring cars.”

Constable’s track record includes the Ginetta GT4 Am title in 2017, winning 13 of the 23 races, and a further victory in the Dubai 24-hour “Championship of The Continents” in 2018.

The Fleet-based driver says he is “over the moon”, and is looking forward to the year ahead.

“This will be my first year racing front-wheel-drive, and I’m relishing the challenge.

“The team helped me get my first taste of the BTCC last year at Croft, and with this new Development Driver role, I’m one step closer to progressing my dream of joining the BTCC grid.”
