Paul Di Resta is confirmed to return to United Autosports and their 2021 Le Mans 24 Hours efforts later this year on 21-22 August.
The former F1 and DTM driver spent LMP2 duties with United Autosports having won the LMP2 Driver’s titles for the 2018-19 Asian Le Mans Series and WEC’s Season 8.
He claimed four wins, five podiums and four pole positions in the seven (out of eight) races he partnered with Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson in the 2019/20 WEC campaign.
Di Resta said in a release: “It’s nice to be part of that journey again and trying to retain the win that we got with Phil and Filipe last year,” having won the 2020 race in LMP2.
“It’s obviously a different set up this year, but it’ll be interesting to see how it goes with my new teammates when they are announced,” in a new third United entry.
The 34-year-old Scotsman will compete his fourth attempt at the race under United Autosports’ USA licenced car (#23) as the two usual UK entries are set to join them (#22 of the WEC/ELMS and the #32 of the ELMS).
After the Sky Sports F1 pundit departed full-time LMP2 duties, he announced a 2022 drive with Peugeot and Le Mans Hypercars.
He continued: “I think it’s good that the ACO have taken action early with changing the date of the race to allow people to prepare. I’m definitely looking forward to going racing again.
“Till then I’ll be doing as much as I can to get integrated into the team again and with my new teammates,” who are to be announced soon.
“I really appreciate the efforts from both (co-owners) Richard [Dean] and Zak [Brown] to get me back into it.”
The provisional entry list for the 89th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours is due to be released tomorrow (Tuesday 9 March).
