Tom Gamble completes the driver line-up at Gulf Racing in the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship, in the GTE-Am category.
The 19-year-old Briton spent the last year in United Autosport’s European Le Mans Series (ELLMS) campaign in the LMP3 category and won the championship.
He will pilot the #86 Porsche 911 RSR-19 in a full-season campaign alongside Team Owner Mike Wainwright and Ben Baker.
Gamble gave his thoughts in a press release:
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to compete in this seasons World Endurance Championship with GR in the Porsche RSR.
“To race at Le Mans has always been a dream of mine so I can’t thank Mike Wainwright enough for the seat and EDGE Management for getting the deal across the line.
“I think with the combination of the team, car and driver line up, we have a real chance to fight for some podiums this season.”
Season 9 of the FIA WEC will feature 13 GTE-Am cars with a number of debuting drivers and teams in the mix.
Owen Daley, Team Manager, added: “Tom is one of the most exciting young drivers around, he’s proven himself to be quick in everything he drives, there is no wonder he won the BRDC Young Driver of the year award (in 2018).
“Winning the ELMS LMP3 Championship proved to us he was ready for the next step and we were delighted to be able to get him to join us for our WEC campaign.”
Gamble prepares himself for his maiden GTE campaign in the WEC including the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this year.
The FIA silver-licensed driver is also competing in the 2021 ELMS LMP2 championship after being promoted to the category by United Autosports.
The 2021 WEC proceedings will begin at Spa-Francorchamps, firstly with the Prologue on April 26-27 followed by the 6-hour opening round on May 1.
