Maverick Vinales started the 2021 season with a majestic win and the Yamaha rider has put it down to a special feeling with the bike.
With Marc Marquez still suffering the after-effects of injury and Valentino Rossi out of his way, 2021 is a big year for Maverick Vinales.
Yamaha’s Top Gun needed a solid start to the season if he wishes to challenge for the championship.
Vinales did just that as he masterfully moved through the pack to take the lead, the Spaniard didn’t look back after he took the lead.
The 26-year-old was imperious, with the charge from the flying Ducati’s never materialising.
Vinales later put his performance down to having a great feeling with his Yamaha: “It’s been a while since I last overtook so many riders in one race,” he said in a press release.
“Early on in the race, I felt this special feeling with the bike.”
Vinales recognises that his best shot at winning the championship will come from a strong start; moreover, the Yamaha rider is one who requires a one-to-one feel with what is underneath him.
He is under no illusions that the opposition will want to bounce-back for this weekends race: “For the coming race, we will work and try to improve again because we know our competitors will also improve,” he explained.
Nevertheless, Vinales is feeling bullish this season: “We still have some things to work on, especially on the race starts,” he said.
“But, overall, I think we can do a good job this season.”
Yamaha’s Top Gun is enjoying the special feeling; he’ll need to go again for race two on Sunday.
