Di Resta replaces Albuquerque at 8H Portimão due to IMSA duties

Paul Di Resta will return to the United Autosports USA team at the second round of the WEC at Portimão due to Albuquerque’s IMSA DPi duties.

Former team regular and reigning LMP2-class Le Mans winner Paul Di Resta will take the place of Filipe Albuquerque at the 8 Hours of Portimao on June 12-13 next month.

The Scotsman was already set to return via a third Le Mans entry in August where he will pair up with Alex Lynn.

“It’s nice to get back racing and I’m looking forward to getting back in the car, he said.

“I haven’t driven the #22 since I raced in Bahrain with United at the end of last year.

“It’s exciting to be called up to take Filipe’s place at Portimao, so I’m thankful to the team for that.”

Filipe Albuquerque won the 24 Hours of Daytona earlier at the start of this year and continues his IMSA DPi commitments at the Detroit Grand Prix.

The fifth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be a 1 hour and 40 minute race around the Raceway at Belle Isle Park on June 11-12.

It also acts as a joint double-header with the IndyCar championship to host the seventh and eighth rounds on June 12 and 13.

The team secured a LMP2 class-victory at the opening round of the Season 9 calendar and looks to establish a championship title defence at the Algarve International Circuit.
