Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel say that he feels much more at ease with his car after a strong Friday at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.
For the first time in 2021, Vettel finally looked settled in the Aston Martin, as he went eighth fastest in FP1 and 11th fastest in FP2.
After a solid first day, Vettel explained that despite the different track, he felt happier with the car.
“Obviously it’s different track different conditions, but I think generally felt a lot more at home.” Vettel said after practice.
Aston Martin brought a raft of upgrades to Portugal last weekend to fit on Lance Stroll’s car; this weekend sees the second part of the upgrade package fitted to Vettel’s car and the four-time world champion feels the upgrades has taken the car a good step forward.
“It seemed to improve. I think it’s a step forward. So it’s good to tick that off.”
Aston Martin’s performance seems to have suffered more with the new aerodynamic regulation change due to the low-rake concept they adopted last year, but they are now working hard to bounce back and climb through the midfield.
And Vettel thinks the team are now starting to close the gap to the leading teams in F1’s crowded midfield.
“That’s sort of the region we are targeting for, and I think if everything goes well, then we might get in that region.”
