Danilo Petrucci goes fastest in a soaking wet warm-up at Le Mans

Last year’s French GP winner Danilo Petrucci went fastest in this morning’s warm-up session.

Tech3 rider Petrucci topped the final timesheet before this afternoon’s French GP. The Italian looked at ease on the sodden Bugatti Circuit this morning.

Petrucci was two-tenths of a second faster than Ducati’s Jack Miller. Miguel Oliveira rounded out the top three on another KTM.

The rest of the top ten featured many riders who won’t line up at the front of the grid. Pecco Bagnaia and Joan Mir were fourth and fifth fastest.

The fastest Frenchman was Johann Zarco, who took sixth despite suffering a fall earlier in the session.

Valentino Rossi led the Yamaha’s with his Petronas machine and front row starter Maverick Vinales rounded out the top ten on the factory Yamaha.

Pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo was only 13th fastest. The conditions were incredibly tricky as most riders tested out the softer compound of Michelin wet weather tyres.

The forecast for the race this afternoon is for more rain. The Honda bikes all struggled in the wet as none of them finished in the top ten.

Marc Marquez finished highest in 11th place; meanwhile, Pol Espargaro was last, nearly four seconds off the pace.
