Tech3 enjoyed a fantastic home race as riders Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona both finished in the top ten.

Former Le Mans winner Petrucci was fast in the warmup, and despite his lowly starting position, the Italian excelled in the wet conditions.

He methodically made his way through the pack and overcame a small error in the pit lane when changing his bike; “I made a small mistake while swapping the bikes as I didn’t put in the first gear, which made me lose some positions.”

Petrucci stayed calm and consistent; he felt that a podium was achievable; nevertheless, the 30-year-old is getting used to the bike and feels more will come: “Anyway, a top 5 is always very good.

“We are starting to get more used to the bike. For sure, I wanted to be on the podium, but for this, I have to be perfect and a bit faster.”

As for Iker Lecuona, the Spaniard survived a trip through the gravel trap to battle back to a top ten finish. Lecuona felt comfortable in all conditions on the Bugatti Circuit; “Honestly, I’m really happy. I felt very strong all weekend in wet and dry conditions; I felt fast and finished closed to the top 10 in each session.”

The 21-year-old attributed the off to a lack of tyre temperature after leaving the pit lane, “I didn’t bring enough heat into the tyres when I went out again, I made a mistake, went to the gravel, but picked up the bike again fast.”

The Tech3 rider displayed tremendous grit, speed and racing ability to claw his way back.

Team principal Herve Poncharal paid credit to his team’s hard work, strategy and speed. The enigmatic Frenchman is now setting his sights on Mugello: “Thank you for the hard work by the technical crew for both sides of the garage, great effort from Danilo and Iker!

“Let’s have a weekend off and repeat this in Mugello!”
