Catalan GP: Espargaro tops FP1 for Aprilia

Aleix Espargaro has topped the opening session of the Catalan GP ahead of the Spaniard’s home race in Catalunya on Sunday.

Espargaro went quickest in the closing stages of the session to move ahead of Franco Morbidelli, who looked comfortable on his SRT Yamaha.

The Aprilia rider’s 1m40.378s lap set the pace, 0.024s faster than Morbidelli.

Pol Espargaro had a good session for Honda finishing in third ahead of Maverick Vinales and Johann Zarco.

Italian GP winner Fabio Quartararo ended FP1 in sixth, Miguel Oliveira and Joan Mir finished seventh and eighth.

The two Ducati’s of Jack Miller and Pecco Bagnaia rounded off the top-ten.

Taka Nakagami finished as the fastest LCR Honda in 11th.

Jorge Martin returns to MotoGP this weekend for the first time since picking up an injury in Portugal, the Spaniard ended FP1 in 12th.

Marc Marquez continues his road to being fully bike-fit and started off this weekend in 13th ahead of Danilo Petrucci and Valentino Rossi.

Iker Lecuona put his Tech3 in 16th to finish ahead of Enea Bastianini and Alex Marquez.

Luca Marini ended FP1 in 19th, Brad Binder and Lorenzo Savadori round off the timesheets in 20th and 21st.

Alex Rins picked up an injury after a cycling accident yesterday and will miss the Catalan GP.
