United Autosports has confirmed ELMS driver Jonathan Aberdein to make his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut with the team on August 21/22.
The South African driver joined the team at the beginning of the year to pursue a sportscar LMP2 campaign in the European Le Mans Series.
Alongside teammates Phil Hanson and Tom Gamble in the #22 car, they have claimed two podium finishes out of the three rounds thus far.
Aberdein be in the #32 entry at Le Mans to join Nico Jamin and another driver (not confirmed as of yet) on his debut at the event.
The FIA WEC full-time #22 car will feature the championship’s regular driver crew (Filipe Albuquerque, Phil Hanson, Fabio Scherer) in addition to a third #23 entry.
“As we all know Le Mans is something special, the driver said in a press release.
“It is a race that I have watched from my couch every year without fail for as long as I can remember.
“It is a real dream come true to be part of the race this year, especially with United Autosports.
“I’m really looking forward to taking on the challenge with Nico and our third co-driver. We will have a great driver line up and a fantastic team leading the way.”
Co-Owners Richard Dean and Zak Brown were additionally pleased on Aberdein’s progress in the ELMS and the fact they will provide the seat to enable a ‘special’ Le Mans debut.
United Autosports are the reigning LMP2 winners of the race and will be keen to defend the crown with any of their three Oreca 07 Gibsons.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is set to take place in August with four full days of racing action in the fourth round of the calendar.
