Reigning champion and standing’s leader Ash Sutton is set on Races 2 and 3 at Brands Hatch Indy in light of an upcoming 75 kg ballast.
Sutton finished the Snetterton event leading the drivers’ standings for the Laser Tools Racing team by two points over Tom Ingram’s 78.
As a result of his top spot, he will carry the most weight ballast into the opening race at Brands Hatch Indy on June 26/27.
After Race 3, where he claimed P2 behind Ingram, he commented:
“I think the weight isn’t obviously great. We’re back up to 75 kilos.
“Brands Hatch doesn’t like the weight there. It’s obviously a lot of stop/starts under heavy braking [and] acceleration – that really hurts and we know how close it can be.”
The Indy circuit acts as a contrast to Snetterton with steep inclines and descents which will make the onboard weight more of a punishment.
Nevertheless, his eyes are set on making the most of the latter two Races where he is not likely to carry such a heavy amount of weight.
Also, the grid positions are determined by a reverse grid draw and the Race 2 results (for the Race 3 grid slot).
“Qualifying is going to be really critical but ultimately, we just shed the weight and aim for Race 2 and 3 again.”
After performing a climb in Race 2 from P11 to the victory, Sutton’s head is held high after Snetterton but focused on the upcoming challenges of Brands Hatch at the end of the month.
