Johann Zarco put his Pramac on top of the timesheets in FP1 of the Austrian GP, setting a new Red Bull Ring lap record right at the end.
Taka Nakagami was fastest for a large majority of the session with a 1m23.810s before Joan Mir went quicker with five minutes remaining.
But there was no hanging around from Zarco as the Frenchman went even faster than his rivals, setting a 1m22.827s and breaking the lap record set by his teammate Jorge Martin last weekend.
Suzuki will be pleased with their running this morning as Mir ended second with teammate Alex Rins third.
Nakagami ended up fourth with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro and championship leader Fabio Quartararo behind in fifth and sixth.
Alex Marquez ended off a good session for LCR Honda in seventh, with Pecco Bagnaia eighth.
Marc Marquez looked to be in some discomfort with his right shoulder as FP1 progressed, the Spaniard ended ninth ahead of Martin and Pol Espargaro.
The two Esponsorama bikes followed in 12th and 13th, with Enea Bastianini getting the better of Luca Marini.
Valentino Rossi ended the session 14th, ahead of the two KTM’s of Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder, the Austrian manufacturer will be hoping for improvement as the weekend goes on.
Jack Miller put his Ducati in 17th ahead of Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona.
Cal Crutchlow, who continues to step in for Franco Morbidelli at the Austrian GP, finished FP1 in 20th.
