Ingram regards patience during Race 3 helped him secure victory

Tom Ingram regards being patient as key to attaining his third race win of the season at Knockhill, still holding second in the standings.

The EXCELR8 Trade Price Cars driver charged to the front in the final race at Knockhill to secure his third win in the 2021 season.

He left Oulton Park from a struggle since not being able to set a qualifying lap due to mechanical troubles; P10 in Race 2 was his only points finish.

“It was critical to get some big points,” he said after he “hemorrhaged” his points momentum at Oulton.

He talked through the critical move he made on Stephen Jelley to take the lead into the hairpin.

“I’d lined it up for a few laps building up to it. When the opportunity arose, I didn’t need a second invitation.

“It sort of felt like Brands Hatch all over again against Tom [Oliphant]… I didn’t need a second invitation – you leave me a gap, I’m gonna fill it.”

Ingram cemented a third victory at his new team and keeps his second place in the championship.

“We knew that with the weight (ballast) that we’ve got, being quick round here is difficult.

“So you just have to be patient [and] just have to progress, and they’re long races.

“Going around [in] fourth, third – all over the place – you just have to be patient because the race will come back to you.

“But you gotta take your time with it.”

The next round sights a return to Thruxton since the season-opener, where he will attempt to narrow the 14-point standings gap to Ash Sutton.

The sixth event on the calendar commences on 28-29 August in two weeks time where he will carry a 66 kg ballast once again into qualifying and the opening race.
