Daytona 24: #10 fronts the field as daylight emerges

After 18 hours and the return of the daylight, the #10 Konica Minolta Acura led the Daytona 24 field over the #60 Meyer Shank Racing.

The temperatures remained cold despite the promising orange haze in the sky signifying incoming daylight.

In particular, the front wheels are taking the most effort to heat up with all cars in the field sending their power to the rear wheels.

As the 17th hour of the race began, it was drama for the #6 driven by Joe Miller who went off and met the wall at Turn 3.

This triggered a safety car period thus an influx of pit stops. The DPis were all kept close by their duels.

Daytona International Speedway returned to Green Flag conditions with seven-and-a-half hours remaining on the clock.

A thrilling fight for P4 in the GTD-Pro broke out when Dani Juncadella of the #97 WeatherTech Racing fended off the #2 Porsche of Laurens Vanthoor.

The gaps edged closer between the pair as both were pushing.

Approximately 10 minutes later, the #97 encountered mechanical problems after white smoke poured out from the engine bay.

The glimpse of sunlight appeared in the inky-dark sky at the 17-hour mark.

Another GTD-Pro fight broke out when the #61 Risi Competizione of Daniel Serra was nose-to-tail and wheel-to-wheel the #15 of Austin Cindric.

Eventually, Serra took fourth place and built the gap so that he challenged the #9 of Felipe Nasr for P2. This was before a pit stop which enabled Cindric back to P3.

Ricky Taylor was leading the race since the #60 of Tom Blomqvist made a pit stop, handing the car over to reigning Daytona 24 winner Helio Castroneves along with four fresh Michelin tyres.

Tower Motorsport driven by Ferdinand Habsburg was leading LMP2 by 6 seconds over the #29 of Renus Veekay.

LMP3 was being lead by the #54 CORE Autosport, as the #2 KCMG lead GTD-Pro with six hours remaining.

GTD was being led by the #21 AF Corse.
