Triple F1 podium-sitter Kvyat set for G-Drive Racing LMP2 debut

G-Drive Racing has confirmed former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat in their World Endurance Championship line-up for the 2022 season.

The three-time F1 podium-finisher will be the third driver for the #26 G-Drive Racing crew alongside James Allen and Rene Binder.

G-Drive Racing return to a full-time WEC commitment with their Oreca 07 Gibson since doing so from 2013 to 2017.

They won the 2015 WEC LMP2 title amid various class victories, as well as three European Le Mans Series titles and 10 wins.

Kvyat said in a press release: “I am happy to join G-Drive Racing, without a doubt the most successful sportscar teams in the world.

“Endurance racing has always fascinated me and to compete in the legendary 24 hours of Le Mans, one of the most famous and prestigious races on the planet, is every driver’s dream but first I am looking forward to the first race in Sebring.

“This form of racing is a new challenge for me and the competition in this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship will be very tough, but together with my teammates and the G-Drive Racing team, we are ready to fight.”

He was reserve driver at the Alpine Formula 1 team in 2021, a role now undertaken by reigning Formula 2 champion Oscar Piastri.

Kvyat was the final LMP2 driver to be confirmed in the 1000 Miles of Sebring entry list, with 44 other drivers competing in the category including his teammates.

His maiden sportscar endeavours for the entire 10th season schedule commences at Sebring with the Prologue on 12-13 March followed by the opener on 18 March.

It will also be his first time at the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans later this year on 12-13 June.
