Parfitt switches to Team HARD-run Infiniti Q50 for 2022

Rick Parfitt has been confirmed with Team HARD in their third and final Infiniti Q50 for his second campaign in the BTCC.

The son of the late Status Quo rhythm guitarist Rick Parfitt will race under the brand of ‘Upton Steel with Team Hard’ in the Infiniti Q50 package for the 2022 season.

Parfitt’s ambitions for his second season are set on challenging for the Jack Sears trophy, the championship for drivers who have yet to score a podium in any previous BTCC events.

Parfitt Jr. said in a press release: “I couldn’t be happier to have signed with Upton Steel with Team Hard Racing.

“The team clearly shares my passion for putting on a show, but at the same time is hugely focused on delivering consistent results, as was shown by their championship winning campaign last year.”

With two British GT titles under his belt already, Parfitt Jr is not a rookie when it comes to competing in front-running machinery.

He came very close to scoring his first championship points on multiple occasions during his debut BTCC campaign last year.

After that season in a EXCELR8 front-wheel drive Hyundai, his return to rear-wheel drive machinery has boosted his confidence.

Team HARD’s boss, Tony Gilham added:

“It’s fantastic to have Rick join our ranks for the 2022 season driving our third and final Infiniti Q50.

“Rick had a solid debut campaign last season in machinery completely new to him.

“For this year he moves back into a rear wheel-drive car and what better car than the championship-winning one.”

“The BTCC is one of the most competitive championships in the world and Rick has now experienced that first-hand.

“A champion in GT racing highlights Ricks potential to mix it with the best this series has to offer, and I have no doubt he will be fighting further up the field in this campaign.”

Two further entries remain to be announced at Team HARD, both of whom will fulfill the final Cupra Leon seats.
