After six hours of racing, the #36 Alpine Elf Team’s A480 Gibson led overall at the opening round of the WEC, the 1000 Miles of Sebring.
As the race returned to green flag racing, the field was brought together and resumed several thrilling fights.
At the same time, the red flag was an unlucky cause for some teams who would then continue on an irregular tyre and fuel strategy.
One of the notable lead fights has been in GTE-Pro with Kevin Estre asserting his pace on the #64 Corvette of Tommy Milner.
The pair remained within close proximity to one-another throughout the next 20 minutes, but the Porsche soon built up its lead.
Into the sixth hour of racing, a battle for P4 in LMP2 made for a thrilling watch.
It was the #38 JOTA of Roberto Gonzalez who fended off WEC rookie Lorenzo Colombo in the #9 Prema Orlen Team, and was successful in doing so after stretching out a gap.
Overall, it was a dominant drive by the #36 Alpine who did not miss out by the red flag’s timing, unlike Glickenhaus who were four laps down after pitting.
The #9 Prema Orlen Team, who showed promising pace earlier on, were also caught out having to consequently work on an irregular pit-stop cycle and tyre strategy.
In LMP2, United Autosports’ #23 of Oli Jarvis led the way in-front of both WRTs.
GTE-Pro featured Corvette Racing splitting both Porsches, the trio of cars competing for the podium positions.
Finally, GTE-Am had the #98 NorthWest AMR continue a lead which it has held for the majority of the race.
