BTCC Testing Kicks Off With Hybrid Installation Day

The British Touring Car Championship’s pre-season testing kicks off in earnest at Donington Park on Tuesday.

Preparations for the 2022 BTCC season commence at Donington Park as teams undergo the hybrid installation test.

It heralds a new era for the series as it embraces hybrid technology for the first time.

Announced in 2020 and developed by motorsport veterans Cosworth, the hybrid pack gets put through its paces for the first time as all BTCC teams participate in the opening test at Donington.

The BTCC is the first touring car series to incorporate hybrid power. Former champion Andrew Jordan shook down a hybrid car last year at Silverstone as the championship used the event as a real-world testing session.

It is a hugely exciting time for Britain’s premier domestic motor racing series. The Donington test is the first of three testing days available to the teams. Following this test, the teams will reconvene at Croft and Thruxton before the season starts at Donington at the end of April.

It will be vital for teams to experience a seamless installation day and log as much data as possible.

The next generation of touring car racing is finally here, and it all starts for real for the drivers and teams.
